Quick Traffic Control Person Position Diagram

A big factor to consider when using traffic control persons as a part of a traffic protection plan is the positioning of the workers. Luckily OTM Book 7 gives a lot of details for this; specific road layouts that can use traffic control persons, speed limit maximums, positioning, general rules and guidelines. Other than that there is always the rules set out by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The only problem is, OTM Book 7 and the Act being large documents can make it difficult to find the information you are looking for. To make things easier for those just looking for some quick info the image below shows baseline traffic control person positioning according to OTM Book 7.

TCP Taper Length Table

These are the taper lengths used when a traffic control person is present. Goes hand in hand with the above diagram. In a couple columns you will notice brackets around the numbers for Longitudinal Buffer Area. This means the buffer is not required at those speeds and is optional instead.
