The tool to help you succeed in your health and safety excellence program topic implementation
The HSEp success plan is a tool that establishes the steps to successfully carry out a health and safety
program and fulfill the topic requirements for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
Health and Safety Excellence Program (HSEp).
It helps plan out the next steps and ensures that you are on the right track to implementing an
effective health and safety program. It directs you where you need to focus your efforts on, what
has already been completed and allows you to check in on your status for your topic
implementation. It is also important to remember that a success plan is not an action plan, but that will be discussed below.
The HSEp success plan is composed of 5 parts to managing health and safety:
- Standard
- Communication
- Training
- Evaluation
- Make improvements and congratulate success
It is organized in a way that is clear, concise and easy to understand. Each part contains specific
steps that you can comfortably follow while still complying with the WSIB Health and Safety
Excellence Program guidelines and requirements. Furthermore, the success plan shows you from
where and what elements you can pull out an evidence story and evidence files from. These are
essential to demonstrate that you successfully implemented the topic and showed that it was well
“living and breathing” in your workplace.
A Success Plan is Not an Action Plan
A success plan and an action plan for the Health and Safety Excellence program are two different things.
Success Plan
An HSEP success plan is a strategic roadmap that outlines the specific steps, resources, and timelines required to achieve the objectives set forth in the Health and Safety Excellence Program (HSEp). It provides a clear and actionable path for implementing health and safety initiatives, ensuring that the organization stays on track and makes measurable progress towards its goals.
Action Plan
An action plan serves as a foundational document for the HSEp. It outlines the specific health and safety topics that an organization has chosen to prioritize. These topics are carefully selected based on their relevance to the organization’s unique needs, risks, and goals. The action plan also includes a brief justification for each chosen topic, explaining why it is considered a critical area for improvement or attention.
Key Differences
- Scope: The success plan focuses on the specific strategies and tactics to achieve the goals, while the action plan identifies the key areas for improvement.
- Level of Detail: The success plan goes into greater depth, providing specific action steps, timelines, and resource requirements, while the action plan provides a high-level overview of the topics to be addressed.
- Purpose: The success plan is a practical guide for achieving tangible results in the health and safety areas, while the action plan serves as a commitment to address certain topics.
