Ontario Regulatory Signs (Ra/Rb/Rc)
The Ontario Traffic Manual discusses the requirements for Regulatory signs in Book 5.
The term “regulatory sign” describes a range of signs that are used to indicate or reinforce traffic laws, regulations or requirements which apply either at all times or at specified times or at specific locations upon a street or highway, the disregard of which constitutes a violation
Regulatory signs are traffic control devices that provide specific instructions to road users, dictating what they must or must not do in certain situations. These signs are backed by varying levels of legal authority and enforcement, depending on the governing jurisdiction. Some signs are directly enforceable under specific laws, while others are enforced through more general regulations or municipal by-laws. Certain signs may not be directly enforceable themselves but serve to reinforce existing regulations, such as those outlined in the Highway Traffic Act.
